I hear you, Abby. I’m going on vacation for a week, but before I left work yesterday, I had a little pep talk with 3 of my clients (all of them on the Asperger end of the spectrum) reminding them of the special social circumstances of holiday meals, either with family or out in the community. It’s a trying time for everyone; but I’m sure all will go well.
Try not to worry. Big family gatherings will be what they are, and your actions and reactions won’t change it. Eat pie and let it flow by. Be the one who listens and witnesses, but doesn’t engage.
Oh dear! I do hope you all manage to hold the spirit of thanksgiving in your hearts; with no worries or offensiveness!
Thanks for the hope! 🙂

Live it up!

This describes my childhood and holidays basically perfectly. 🙂
Good to know someone else is like me. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. 🙂
Hah! I choose where I will eat Thanksgiving dinner…eliminates all those pesky issues. Relax and breathe deeply! Cheers.
Cheers! 🙂
It is always that way. I hope you find a way to cope.
Yes, it is. Thanks. I’ve been using a couple coping mechanisms: earplugs, spinning, hiding in the storage room… 🙂
I agree. This paints my thanksgiving accurately.
